SILVERHILL ELEMENTARY COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE PROGRAM

Name: Karen Kaiser
Title: Counselor

Biography:

I graduated from Troy State University with a Master's of Science in Counseling and Psychology.  I have been the Counselor at Silverhill Elementary School for the past nine years.  Prior to this, I worked with Baldwin County Mental Health Center where I gained over eight years of experience in individual, group and family counseling.

Mission Statement:

As Guidance Counselor, my mission is to prepare students socially, academically and emotionally for present and future challenges through a safe, caring and stimulating environment.  I strive to accomplish this mission by providing a planned, purposeful and sequential program of activities that begins in kindergarten and continues through sixth grade.  The program is data driven by student needs and provides outcome based accountability measures.  This aligns the counseling program with the school's overall academic mission.  I work collaboratively with students, educators, parents and community members to empower students to reach their highest potential.  Our dedicated faculty and staff, in partnership with the community, strive to meet each student's individual needs.

Program Goal:

The goal of the Counseling and Guidance Program is to promote the development of the fundamental skills of self-concept and healthy interpersonal relationships.  It emphasizes decision-making, self awareness, and the exploration of future career and educational options.

The Too Good for Drugs and the district K-12 Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Curriculum are used as the core curriculums for teaching these skills.  I work with large groups, small groups and individual students to ensure that the needs of all students are being met.
